Sorostitute: Revealing Terminology

An Analysis on Perceptions Of Status

I don't much care for the term "sorostitute". This is obviously a fusion of the words "sorority" and "prostitute".

First, it implies that these women charge for their services and in my experience, they do not.

Second, use of the term expresses a hostile jealousy of an inferior status quo. It reveals a rejection based upon feeling rejected and a lack of self-assuredness marked by a desire to escape to a place where status is established by membership and where the criteria for such is a composite of qualities that ensure social success but would also condemn a thinking person to false elations over the vapid and banal.

I think it is high time for people who are less pretty and rich than the kids on The O.C. to finally be comfortable enough in their own esoteric niche that they can save themselves from expressing a woefully unbecoming snobbery against jocks and cheerleaders, whom for the most part have enough dignity not to feign intellectualism or to fake artsyness.

Soroities are widely perceived to be for the pretty, vacant and soulless, and many as a brutish celebration of homoeroticism and date rape describe Fraternity life. A lot of people say that Greek culture, as a whole might just be a conglomeration of socially inept douchebags who need an institutionalized friendship to get along in life. Well all the above statements are true on some level; but why get so miffed about it?

Hostility toward other social cliques is snobbery no matter what. Enjoy and appreciate yourself and stop the hate.
